Sion Airport, Switzerland
This regional airport is situated in the Valais, about an hour drive from both Geneva and Bern. A dual military and civilian airport the owner of the site, the City of Sion, was faced with a revenue shortfall and potential job losses due to the imminent departure of the Swiss Air Force following a decision to concentrate their Air Bases in five locations across the country. The municipality commissioned Airport Development Partners SA to propose alternative income streams to enable the city of Sion to compensate for the loss of income and to propose new, job-creating activities around areas such as maintenance and repair, business aviation the promotion of new routes benefiting from the airport’s proximity to Zermatt, Verbier and Crans-Montana.
